Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill Area

Visitors to North Carolina’s capital city of Raleigh, or to the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill triangle have a number of excellent museums to explore. Whether your family’s interests tend toward great works of art, natural science, wildlife and ecology or history, the area has institutions that offer just what you want to see or know.
The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh is free to the public and offers a unique view of the world through the lens of North Carolina’s diverse geography, geology, plants and animals. Beginning on October 27and running through March 2, 2008, the museum will be hosting an innovative dinosaur exhibit featuring a 60-food model of an apatosaurus, a full-sized T. Rex skeleton as well as a robotic version that boasts of being the most accurate three-dimensional representation of a dinosaur in motion ever created.

Leaf-Looker Season in the Blue Ridge

First come the wannabe Leaf-Lookers. They start arriving in late September, inevitably disappointed by the lack of fall foliage anywhere but atop the highest portions of the Blue Ridge Parkway, but happy there are so many side excursions to engage, festivals to attend, and adventures to embark upon.
Then, about mid-October the real Leaf-Lookers arrive in droves. They can start at either end of North Carolina’s section of the Parkway, timing their stops along the way to the many events going on. Starting in the north, the Yadkin Valley Grape Festival is scheduled for Saturday, October 20 in downtown Yadkinville.

September 10th, 2007

Football season is upon us, and North Carolina’s Panthers soundly defeated the Rams in St. Louis, the first time since the franchise began that their opener was an away game. Charlotte is the city the Panthers call home, and is also the home town of NASCAR. For sports lovers, you just can’t beat it!
The home schedule for the Panthers at the beautiful downtown Bank of America Stadium and events schedule for Lowe’s Motor Speedway are below, and there are several overlapping weekends that sports lovers could take advantage of for booking a multi-purpose get-away in the Charlotte environs.

Food and Fun on the Waterfront

Seafood lovers should begin planning now to be on the Morehead City waterfront for the weekend of October 5-7 for the 21st annual North Carolina Seafood Festival. As if there weren’t enough to do in the beautiful Outer Banks, there will be music, fireworks, carnival rides, arts and crafts, a fishing tournament and a boat show. This is the second largest annual festival in North Carolina, and it’s all free!
Among the entertainment lineup are The Breakfast Club with their ’80s sound, country music star Steve Holy, The Waller Family, a Saturday night Clam Jam and plenty of beach music from the Craig Woolard Band and the Attractions. Food venders will be offering fresh shrimp, clams and oysters, seafood stews, salads and sandwiches.
