I've seen the Brown Mountain Lights. I was a youngster on a camping trip with my family. (My parents loved trying to spook us out.) We parked at an over-look across the way and waited. There were other families there too. After a while, most of them gave up and left. We and one other family waited a while longer. Suddenly the sky turned black (and I mean very quickly, some clouds rolled in.) We had been sitting outside but had to jump in the back of the pickup (with camper top) to get in from the sudden storm. As lightening would strike on one end of the mountain, the mysterious lights would appear across it's ridge. They were different colors and seemed to come up from behind, pause or roll then go downward and disappear. They were different colors, yellow, white, red and blue. I remember one that was yellow paused at it's uppermost point, seemed to grow brighter in the center, then the center grew dimmer again before it appeared to go down the side and disappear. I remember that one being particularly spooky because it had the same effect as someone turning a lantern directly toward me for a moment would. It was such an awesome, inexplicable night. I'll never forget it and can't wait to take my own kids. If you ever find your self waiting at the over look to see them, give it some time... especially if there is a storm coming in, you will see them, and you will never forget it!

When I was a small child we used to have a 45 record of the legend of the Brown Mountain Lights. I was totally captivated by this story and still am. I don't know if it is the old slave looking for his owner, or the murdered wife, but I know that I can't wait to see them!
